Mark Malinas
Clayton Utz has hired Mark Malinas as head of private equity to strengthen the firm’s transactional capabilities.
“Mark [Malinas’] appointment comes amid increased activity in private markets and reflects our growing focus on supporting clients as private capital flows continue to grow,” Clayton Utz’s chief executive partner Emma Covacevich told Asia Business Law Journal.
Covacevich said she was seeing clear and sustained activity in private markets, and the shift in capital flows was playing an increasingly important role in their market.
Malinas will officially join Clayton Utz in early 2026. He is currently serving as a senior partner at Allens, where he has held several leadership roles, including co-head of private equity, leading its Melbourne M&A team. He has also served on its board for a decade
With more than 20 years of specialist experience, Malinas brings knowledge in M&A and private equity transactions, including buyouts and exits. He also had deep expertise in both domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, said Covacevich.
Malinas has also advised on corporate governance, board advisory matters and securities law.
Among the transactions Malinas has worked on at Allens was co-leading a team in advising Australian telecommunications company Vocus Group on its AUD3.5 billion (USD2.28 billion) acquisition by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets and retirement company Aware Super.
