Arsenal fear Gabriel injury could keep Brazilian sidelined until January

Arsenal are awaiting clarity on the thigh injury sustained by Gabriel while he was on international duty, with early indications suggesting he could be sidelined for several weeks.

The defender was visibly in pain as he came off during Brazil’s friendly against Senegal at Emirates Stadium over the weekend.

He has since remained in London for treatment, and initial concerns within the club are that he could be out for at least four weeks, with some sources warning the layoff may extend into January.

Further tests in the coming days will determine the full severity of the injury and provide a more accurate recovery timeline.

His expected absence for Sunday’s North London derby against Tottenham comes as a significant setback for Mikel Arteta.

Gabriel has forged a strong centre-back partnership with William Saliba, anchoring a defence that has conceded only five Premier League goals this season.

Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera are among those who could step in if Gabriel is ruled out.

Despite leading the Premier League, Arsenal have had to contend with a growing injury list.

Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres are all currently sidelined.

Though several of them are close to returning, it remains unclear whether any will be fit in time for the derby.
