APCCA names new secretary-general at Bali conference

APCCA secretary-general-elect, Seradesy Sumardi, delivers her remarks at the Indonesian In-House Counsel Summit and Awards 2025 in Bali.

The Asia Pacific Corporate Counsel Alliance (APCCA) has appointed Seradesy Sumardi, Indonesian Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA) president, as secretary-general at the 8th APCCA conference on 2 to 3 October.

Organised by Hukumonline in collaboration with the ICCA and the APCCA, the Indonesian In-House Counsel Summit and Awards 2025, which also hosted the 8th APCCA in Bali, gathered corporate counsel, law firm partners and business leaders.

During the summit, Sumardi, chief legal counsel at L’Oréal Indonesia and the first woman to serve as ICCA president, was named secretary-general of the APCCA, effective January 2026. She will succeed Arlene Lapuz Ureta, who concludes her second term.

In her remarks, Sumardi underscored the need for agility and foresight amid shifting regulatory and geopolitical landscapes. “In this environment, in-house counsel must be both legal problem-solvers and navigators guiding their companies,” she said.

With the theme Agility in Convergence 2026, the summit highlighted the role of in-house counsel in navigating the intersection of law, business, technology and sustainability.

Indonesia’s deputy attorney general for Civil and State Administrative Affairs, R Narendra Jatna, delivered the keynote address, urging in-house counsel to uphold the three professional pillars, the Code of Practices, the Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct, to foster integrity and trust.

Hukumonline CEO Arkka Dhiratara delivered the opening remarks, describing in-house counsel as “guardians of integrity and navigators who keep the company on the right legal course”.

The In-House Counsel Awards 2025 recognised outstanding corporate lawyers and legal teams through the In-House Counsel Elite 2025 and In-House Counsel Choice 2025 categories.

The event saw strong participation from APCCA member associations, including the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association, the Legal Management Council of the Philippines, the Malaysia Corporate Counsel Association, the Japan In-House Lawyers Association and the Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers. It was supported by sponsors including Assegaf Hamzah & Partners, Tamba & Kumara Law Offices, Allen & Gledhill, PwC Indonesia, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and DeHeng ARKO Law Offices.
