Al-Ahli sporting director rules out Ivan Toney sale in January

As relayed by Goal.com, Al-Ahli sporting director Rui Pedro Braz has ruled out the possibility of the club parting ways with Ivan Toney during the upcoming winter transfer window.

“Ivan Toney is a top player, a top striker,” he said.  “The rumours around his possible exit in January are not based on reality. It’s just not true. We’re counting on him, it makes zero sense to address this subject in November.”

Toney has recently been linked with a number of clubs, most strongly with Tottenham Hotspur, where his former coach at Brentford Thomas Frank is currently battling a lack of attacking options. Both Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo-Muani are out of action, with an ankle and a jaw problem, respectively.

At Spurs, they consider Toney the perfect man to step in, but there have been concerns over their ability to satisfy his wage demands. Covering what he earns in Saudi Arabia and the UK taxes on that amount, they would need to pay close to £900,000 per week.

Still, it seems the 29-year-old won’t be returning to England just yet.
