Airtel Telecom Africa Half-Year Profit Surges To $376 Million

Telecom giant Airtel Africa posts a 375% profit jump and 26% revenue growth to $2.98 billion, fueled by data and mobile money expansion across key markets.

Airtel Africa Plc has posted a sharp rebound in earnings, reporting a profit after tax of $376 million for the half year ended on Tuesday September 30, 2025 — a 375 percent increase from $79 million recorded in the same period last year.

The telecoms group said on Tuesday October 28, 2025, that revenue rose 25.8 percent to $2.98 billion, up from $2.37 billion in 2024, driven by strong performances in Nigeria, East Africa, and Francophone Africa. On a constant-currency basis, revenue climbed 24.5 percent, underscoring broad-based operational strength across its 14 markets.

Airtel’s data business continued to lead the surge, with data revenue up 37.5 percent to $1.16 billion, overtaking voice services, which grew 14.5 percent to $1.10 billion. Its fast-growing mobile money unit posted a 33.9 percent rise to $623 million, fueled by increasing transaction volumes and expanding customer adoption.

The company’s EBITDA rose 33.2 percent to $1.45 billion, with margins improving to 48.5 percent, compared with 45.8 percent a year earlier. Operating profit jumped 35.9 percent to $959 million.

Airtel Africa attributed its stronger profitability partly to a 42.6 percent drop in finance costs to $304 million, following lower foreign exchange losses and $90 million in derivative gains in Nigeria and Francophone markets.

Profit before tax rose to $656 million, up from $178 million in 2024, while earnings per share climbed to 8.3 cents from 0.8 cents last year — a nearly tenfold increase.

Operational cash flow also improved sharply. Net cash from operating activities grew 41.8 percent to $1.39 billion, and operating free cash flow rose 46.5 percent to $1.13 billion. The group’s net debt remained stable at $5.51 billion, while leverage improved to 2.1 times EBITDA, down from 2.3 times a year earlier.

The company’s customer base expanded 11 percent to 173.8 million, supported by 18 percent growth in data users to 78.1 million and 20 percent growth in mobile money subscribers to 49.8 million. Average revenue per user increased 14.8 percent to $2.9.

Airtel Africa said the results highlight “stronger operating momentum, tighter cost control, and sustained growth in digital and financial services” across its footprint.
