Aerosmith have announced a new collaborative single featuring Gen Z rockstar Yungblud. “My Only Angle” is the band’s first new song in over ten years, and based on the one-minute teaser the band dropped it sounds like Aerosmith aren’t leaving any meat on the bone. Between Steven Tyler and Yungblud’s soaring harmonies and Joe Perry’s punchy guitar licks, “My Only Angel” could be the straightforward rock-kicker the band needed after retiring from touring last year. While there’s no release date announced for the track yet, fans can pre-save the single on streaming platforms and listen to the 1-minute teaser video below.

Who Is Yungblud And Why Has His Recent Success Become Controversial?

Yungblud has been garnering quite a bit of attention lately. His performance with Steven Tyler at the VMAs earned him lots of high praise in the rock community, though some rock musicians aren’t convinced Yungblud is authentically ‘rock.’ It’s clear that Yungblud has the stage presence and natural talent required to keep up with rock titans like Steven Tyler. However, given his sudden jump in the rock and even heavy metal spaces, with his dazzling performance at Back to the Beginning, the lack of familiarity with Yungblud prior to these recent events could be why some think he’s being forcibly touted as the next big rock icon.

What’s Next For Aerosmith And Yungblud?

Many fans are surprised by how active Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has been over this last year. Despite Aerosmith cancelling their farewell tour due to Tyler suffering a vocal cord injury, Tyler has since performed at a Black Crowes gig, Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell show, and now recently the VMAs. With the band set to release their first new song in over a decade, fans are beginning to speculate if Aerosmith have other big plans in the works. Guitarist Joe Perry commented in July on whether or not Aerosmith would do a final show, to which he’s said “We’re talking about it. I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one.”

Given how successful Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell festival was – which Steven Tyler performed at – Aerosmith might be looking to put on a similar kind of final show. While this seems the most ideal scenario, another scenario that could be in the realm of possibilities is a final tour, but with Yungblud performing alongside the band. It’s unclear what limitations Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury has put on him, but doing a full scale tour like the band had initially planned seems off the table. However, if Yungblud were to help out with vocal duties, not performing the entire set but part of it, maybe it could help the band and Tyler bear the weight of a full farewell tour.

Of course this is all just speculation and nothing has been said or confirmed to indicate this is in the works, but stranger things have occurred in the world or rock ‘n’ roll. While it was a different circumstance, it wasn’t too long ago when Axl Rose stepped in for AC/DC’s Brian Johnson to help the band finish off their North American tour in 2016. Whatever Aerosmith is planning for the future, it certainly sounds like the band will be hitting the stage together again, for at least one last show.
