A Walk Around Afritz See

A Walk Around Afritz See

Day 3 of the Feld Am See tournament (Draws are here); I have played one match in the first three days, though tomorrow, Thursday, I finally play both singles and doubles.

Vicki Buholz won her semi 60 60 and played a pretty flawless match. We warmed up (worked out?) for over an hour though in the early morning.

After Vicki’s noon time match Vicki, her husband Steve, MJ & Rudy Pachl and I drove to Afritz See and walked around the lake, which was a nice walk, especially on the side not on the busy road. Afritz See is considerably bigger than BrennSee (the lake abutting Feld am See), with a length of 1.5 km and about .4 km wide compared to BrennSee with a similar width but less than 1/2 mile long.

There are some small summer cottages at the north end of the lake where we started around and the settlement of Afritz is at the southern end (and has some tennis courts). The west side of the lake, away from the road has a nice shady, albeit a bit rocky path and the east side abuts the road going from Villach to Gmund.

After our walk, Vicki and I went to the small church in Feld am See (built in 1787) and walked around the adjacent graveyard which was planted with summer flowers on nearly every gravesite. It was a peaceful end to the afternoon.

It was a sunny but cool day today…a warm up is predicted and no more rain this week! Yeah!
