Keane says Marc Guehi Liverpool transfer blunder looks worse now

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has criticised Liverpool’s mistake with failing to get the Marc Guehi transfer deal over the line this summer.

The pundit, speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, said it now looked even worse for Liverpool that they couldn’t a move for Guehi done after such a poor start to the season for Arne Slot’s side, particularly defensively.

Liverpool won the Premier League title last season, but already look to be out of this year’s title race as they sit in 8th place in the table with an astonishing 17 goals conceded in their first 11 games.

In the end, however, the Reds left it really late in the window to move for the England international, and Keane has criticised their failure to get what looked like a potentially very important signing done.

“They’ll regret that decision as well, Guehi in the summer, won’t they,” Keane said.

“That looks worse now, the more you look at it.”

Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher agreed, having also criticised the lack of physicality in this current LFC squad.

Liverpool still strongly linked with Marc Guehi

According to Sky Sports, it seems Liverpool are still being strongly linked with Guehi ahead of January.

Their report states that Palace feel that if anyone moves for the 25-year-old in the winter window, it will be Liverpool, whereas other interested clubs might wait until he becomes a free agent in the summer.

One imagines there’ll be plenty of Reds fans hoping this deal can still happen for their club this season, as it’s clear that Slot needs more from his defence right now.

Guehi could also be an ideal long-term replacement for the ageing Virgil van Dijk, while the team also need to be prepared for the possibility of Ibrahima Konate leaving when his current contract expires at the end of the season.
