Ravels grants €16K to Triple 6 Base BMX Track in Weelde

Ravels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ravels approved €16,000 for Triple 6 Base, Europe’s largest indoor BMX track in Weelde. Mayor Nic Andriessen praised the €150,000 project.

As VRT News reported, Weelde, Ravels, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, has opened the largest indoor BMX track in continental Europe. Triple 6 Base is located in a hall of the former NATO base. The track was officially opened last Friday, Nov 14, 2025, with a laser show, BMX stunts by professional riders, and a club competition. It is designed for both beginners and experienced riders.

What will Ravels’ €16,000 subsidy mean for Triple 6 Base BMX track?

On Monday evening, Nov 17, 2025, the Ravels city council approved a €16,000 subsidy for Triple 6 Base, the indoor BMX track in Weelde. They mentioned that the funding will help improve the track, host events, and make BMX more accessible to the community. Officials and club representatives say the project will attract riders from across Europe. They also expect it to boost the local sports scene.

Mayor Nic Andriessen (CD&) praised the work done in Hall 11. He highlighted the quality of the construction and the effort made by the club. Triple 6 Base chairman Tom Verherstraeten is grateful for the subsidy.

He said the project has already cost the club around €150,000 to build the BMX course. The track is finished and ready for use, but toilets and showers still need to be installed. The subsidy will help cover these remaining improvements.

The indoor BMX track in Weelde, run by Triple 6 Base, has been in the works since 2022, when the municipality of Ravels decided to open the old NATO halls for sports clubs. The BMX‑Devils club took the opportunity to plan a full indoor course in Hall 11 of the former base.

Construction began in early 2023, and by September, the track was nearly complete. The facility was expected to open in the autumn of 2023. Triple 6 Base now runs the indoor track, adding to the outdoor BMX track already operated by the BMX‑Devils in Ravels.
