Lando Norris clinched victory at the São Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday, extending his lead in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship to 24 points over his teammate and title rival Oscar Piastri.
Norris dominated the race at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, converting pole position into his seventh win of the season. With three races and a sprint remaining, his 390-point tally puts him firmly in control of the title battle. Piastri, meanwhile, suffered a 10-second penalty for causing a collision and finished fifth — leaving him on 366 points.
Starting from the pit lane and recovering from a slow puncture early on, four-time world champion Max Verstappen delivered a heroic comeback to finish third — his podium finish a reminder that, though his title chances have dwindled, he remains a formidable contender.
Greek spotlights were on rookie Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes‑AMG Petronas F1 Team, who secured a career-best second place after a hard-fought duel with Verstappen. Meanwhile, for Piastri, the weekend proved costly: his Sprint crash, penalty in the Grand Prix and lost ground toward the title have left him scrambling.
In the Constructors’ battle, McLaren F1 Team strengthened their grip at the top as Mercedes consolidated second place, with Ferrari enduring another difficult weekend.
Norris, however, was quick to temper expectations. “Just another weekend trying to win, to get most points I could,” he said. “Still a long way to go — this could change so quickly.”
With Las Vegas up next, the championship showdown is far from over — but Norris’s performance in Brazil has undoubtedly shifted the momentum in his favour.
