France, which wants to suspend Shein if it does not comply with its laws, is urging the European Union to go “further” in order to “crack down” on violations of the rules by the Asian giant of online commerce.

Paris – The European Commission “must take action” and sanction Shein which is “clearly in violation of European rules,” urged the head of diplomacy Jean-Noël Barrot on France Info radio on Thursday.
A customs check of Shein packages at Roissy airport revealed “non-compliant and illegal products: unauthorized cosmetics, dangerous toys for children, counterfeits, faulty household appliances,” said the Minister of Public Accounts Amélie de Montchalin on X.
The EU says it shares France’s concerns and is taking the matter “very seriously,” according to Thomas Régnier, spokesperson for the Commission on digital matters.
The Shein group is facing a suspension procedure after the discovery of child-like sex dolls on its site.
Its president Donald Tang promised to “comply with all French laws,” in a letter sent to Serge Papin, Minister of Commerce. (November 6, 2025)
