David Menon, partner at Rajah & Tann Singapore
Rajah & Tann Singapore has hired former deputy director of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, David Menon, to deepen its disputes resolution practice.
“[Menon] is part of our renewal and succession strategy, particularly for our appellate and advocacy offerings,” Kim Beng Ng, managing partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Menon worked at the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Singapore for more than four years in roles, including deputy director and deputy public prosecutor. Prior to this, he spent three years at Debevoise and Plimpton.
He specialises in white-collar crime, anti-corruption and cross-border enforcement. During his career, Menon has also led more than 30 trials and appeals before the district court, high court and court of appeal.
In his previous roles at the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Menon prosecuted a senior vice president of SingPost, a Singaporean postal service provider, who had deceived the company into paying him a higher salary and solicited a SGD1 million (USD 765,000) bribe. He also led the prosecution of several individuals involved in a corrupt kickback scheme with the global asset manager and operator Keppel FELS.
Additionally, Menon represented the public prosecutor in negotiations with Seatrium, a Singaporean state-owned shipbuilding and repair company. This led to the signing of Singapore’s first deferred prosecution agreement.
Ng said that at Rajah & Tann Singapore, Menon would focus on handling anti-corruption and financial crime matters, drawing on his experience prosecuting major bribery, fraud and corruption cases.
We hope that his unique experience advising multinational corporations and senior executives in the US on white-collar defence and regulatory matters would help turbocharge the growth of our presence in the high-stakes, cross-border disputes and regulatory investigations space, said Ng.
