T+L’s Hotel Review of Delamar Westport in Connecticut

Delamar Westport

  • Delamar Westport’s luxe Siriano Presidential Suite offers all the residential comforts to feel right at home, including a fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, walk-in closets, and soaking tubs.
  • This pet-friendly hotel spoils four-legged guests with bottled Fiji water, plush bedding, and gourmet treats.
  • Meals at Dandelion, the hotel’s Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, are as photogenic as they are delicious.

Well-appointed, high-end hotels and resorts in New England aren’t exactly hard to find, but the ones that truly capture the attention of discerning travelers form a much shorter list—usually clustered in coastal Maine, Cape Cod, or Newport, Rhode Island.

That’s why I was curious when I found out the Delamar Hotel Collection—one of New England’s most glamorous, homegrown hotel groups that’s also behind the Travel + Leisure reader-favorite Delamar Southport—was opening an outpost in Westport, Connecticut. The hotel group turned to fashion designer and Project Runway darling, Christian Siriano, to up the ante on the suites at the company’s newest Connecticut getaway.

While plenty of hotels boast of “residential-style” accommodations, the three Siriano-designed suites at Delamar Westport genuinely deliver. It felt like a true home away from home for my husband, our oh-so-spoiled Australian shepherd, and me, if only for a night.

Siriano’s design touch runs through the sleek lobby and suites, blending statement shapes and luxe textures into something that feels like a more livable, Connecticut-cool version of Ian Schrager’s world.

The designer’s talents are most evident throughout his namesake Presidential Suite, from framed design sketches in the office to art and design books scattered throughout the space. The attention to textures and materials is apparent throughout the living spaces and three bedrooms, from upholstered headboards in each of the two primary suites to a sprawling cream couch in the living room.

“Everything that I use is all [sourced] from Italian mills, French mills, and fabric houses that are stunning and incredible,” Siriano says. “We did not skimp on the fabric.”

The earthy tones and clean lines throughout the spaces are broken up by furnishings such as a ripple-edged coffee table and a curved couch, as well as sculptures scattered throughout the living and dining area.

“We want people to never leave,” Siriano, a Westport resident, jokes. “I really wanted to decorate it like I would decorate a client’s house, which I think sometimes hospitality establishments forget.”

Below, my full review of Delamar Westport.

The Rooms

Delamar Westport features 84 guest rooms and suites, of which three—including the 1,900-square-foot presidential suite—are designed by Siriano. When it comes to hotels, there’s residential-style and then there’s a full-blown residence. Delamar Westport’s Siriano Presidential Suite falls into the latter camp.

“I wanted it to feel very modern and special and unique,” Siriano says. “It really feels more like a home.”

The three-bedroom top-floor lair is a jaw-dropper, starting with the fully stocked kitchen fit for a Nancy Meyers movie, with an island the size of an aircraft carrier (I jest, but not by much).

The bathroom and study is filled with Siriano’s sketches.

There’s even a terrace to enjoy your morning coffee or pre-dinner drink. One minor quibble was that the space is so large, it could use more trash cans, especially in the kitchen, with so much opportunity to whip up a multi-course feast. (Nobody should have to flit to the en-suite bathroom to dispose of a Nespresso pod.

The hotel is dog-friendly for four-legged companions up to 100 pounds. Those arriving with a canine family member can expect bedding, food, water bowls, bottled water, and treats.

All bathrooms at the hotel are stocked with Bulgari toiletries, slippers, and robes. Guests can also coordinate with the hotel for upgraded in-room welcome amenities, such as a charcuterie plate.

Food and Drink

The Mediterranean-influenced Dandelion is Delamar Westport’s full-service restaurant and bar—a vaulted, greenery-laced space that’s as inviting for a leisurely breakfast as it is for a nightcap. Lush walls of foliage and natural stone lend color and warmth to the airy room, punctuated with intimate seating nooks near the bar, and banquettes tucked into the restaurant’s far corners.

Mornings begin with a complimentary continental spread of baked goods, fresh juices, and heartier fare like egg bites and bacon. Unlike Delamar’s sibling property in Mystic, Connecticut, which also offers made-to-order entrées, Dandelion keeps things self-service at sunrise.

Where Dandelion truly shines is after dark. Although our dinner reservation briefly fell through the cracks, the team found us a table—lucky for us, because even on a stormy Monday night, this is clearly the hot spot in Westport. Every table buzzed with diners out for a proper night on the town.

This is the kind of place where even the house-baked bread, topped with everything spice and paired with olive oil, deserves fanfare. Starters like Moroccan “cigars” (goat cheese-filled spring rolls with labneh and harissa) and tuna carpaccio struck a perfect balance of hearty and bright before we moved on to wood-fired swordfish kebabs and a Turkish coffee-rubbed New York strip.

Activities and Experiences

Delamar Westport shares the broader ethos of the Delamar brand, which aims to connect each property with its surrounding community. Guests receive a complimentary Connecticut Art Trail passport, unlocking free admission for a year to more than 30 museums and historic sites across the state.

Nearby highlights include The Museum of Contemporary Art Connecticut (MOCA), Weir Farm National Historic Park, and the Fairfield University Art Museum. The hotel also partners with the Westport Country Playhouse, where Delamar guests enjoy 25 percent off tickets.

The Spa

Guests can book spa treatments at the nearby Delamar Southport, a sibling hotel just a five-minute drive away. However, Delamar Westport has an on-site fitness center open 24/7.

Warm summer days are perfect for relaxing at Compo Beach—just a 15-minute drive away along the town’s southwestern shore—or families can take in a show at the Westport Country Playhouse.

Accessibility and Sustainability

Delamar Westport is ADA-compliant throughout the hotel and restaurant. A Superior King guest room features a bathroom with an accessible dual vanity and a roll-in shower.

The Siriano design touch extends to Delamar Westport’s sustainability initiatives. Guests can use the electric “Siriano Sketch” Volkswagen bus, adorned with the same sketches seen in the Presidential Suite, for local transportation.
