The 8 Best Luxury Hotel Bedding Pieces of 2025, Tested and Reviewed

There’s something about stepping into a clean hotel room that instantly melts all stress away. The quality of sleep you get is even better. If I’m being honest, sleeping at a rental share doesn’t compare to the sleep I get at a five-star hotel. That’s because luxury hotels are very intentional about the bedding they use in their properties. Think about it—have you ever been to a hotel where the sheets weren’t white, crisp, and incredibly soft? Probably not.

If you wish you could get the same restful sleep you get at your favorite hotel right at home, it is possible. But you need to invest in luxury hotel bedding, which can be quite costly. After all, you can’t put a price on great sleep.

If you are going to spend the money, you should make it count. So, our team of editors at Travel + Leisure tried a ton of hotel-quality bedding to find the pieces really worth buying. For three weeks, we slept on hotel-like comforters, bed sheets, duvet covers, and mattress toppers while taking note of how they performed in comfort, quality, breathability, design, ease of use, and value.

So, if you want to get the deep sleep you get while you’re on vacation without traveling far, here’s the luxury hotel bedding you need to give your bed a five-star makeover.

Comforters can be tricky to shop for, but Brooklinen’s All-Season Down Comforter is one that all types of sleepers will love. It’s fluffy with some weight to it, but light enough that even those who sleep hot can use it without fear of overheating.  The comforter is also soft to the touch, making it feel next-level cozy. While the comforter can be used as a duvet insert, we also loved using it without a cover because of its silky feel.

What we were most impressed by is that the comforter never got lumpy on any of the nights we slept with it. Its feathers are distributed evenly and don’t shift around, plus we never felt like they were poking out of the bedding, something that’s fairly common with real down.

While this comforter also comes in both a more lightweight option, and a heavier, warmer version, the all-season choice feels just right in terms of breathability and warmth. Travel + Leisure’s senior testing editor Jackie Cucco says she never experienced any overheating while using this comforter. “I used it in a variety of temperatures—both with the air conditioning on and off—and it felt like it regulated my temperature to help me sleep comfortably.”

It’s also really easy to get the comforter inside a duvet because it’s thin enough that you don’t have to wrestle with it. The comforter will stay in place because each corner features a loop, where you can secure the ties of a duvet cover to. While the all-season comforter is a great choice for most sleepers, people who run cold may prefer the warmer version of it. But it’s definitely thin enough to layer with other bedding.

Why We Love It

  • Made from slow-spun long-staple cotton, these sheets are soft, breathable, and cool.

If you want hotel-quality sheets that do a good job at keeping you cool, Boll & Branch’s Reserve Sheet Set is worth every penny. The sheets are soft, crisp, and extremely breathable, so they don’t trap heat. They’re produced in a fair-trade factory from slow spun 100 percent organic cotton, giving them an almost silky finish

My typical sheets are made from a sateen weave, and they’re noticeably much less cooler than these, despite them feeling nearly the same to the touch. Like my sateen sheets, the Boll & Branch sheets are really soft with a subtle sheen finish. They also become a bit softer with each wash

While these sheets are definitely a splurge, I could immediately tell they were made from high-quality materials. I didn’t notice any loose threads or snags on the bedding, or any other imperfections that would make me question their price.

The only improvement I would make to these sheets is adding a loop in each corner of the fitted sheet to make sure it stays in place while I’m sleeping. I tend to shift around a lot in the middle of the night and one corner came undone a few times. This was only a minor inconvenience. I loved that I never felt overheated in these sheets and that they didn’t feel stiff like some cotton sheets do. Instead, they were very cozy and even came with two pillowcases to match. I should also note that the sheets get quite wrinkled after washing, but I’ve found that’s common in most bedding and is a minor issue compared to the value you get from sleeping in them.

The sheets in this Ritz-Carlton set are made with a weight, texture, and design that feel incredibly hotel-like. They’re spun from 400 thread count percale cotton and finished with an elegant triple-line design. When we first unboxed them, we noticed that the sheets’ stitching was precise and even. We couldn’t find any loose threads, snags, or other imperfections even after several nights of sleeping in them.

We also found that the sheets held up even after washing. After cleaning them using a regular wash and dryer cycle without any special care, they didn’t experience any shrinking, pilling, rips, or discoloration. They came out of the wash just as crisp and soft as when we first unpacked them. Though the sheets are a splurge, this next-level durability makes them well-worth their price.

When it came to sleeping in them, we liked that the sheets were really breathable. They were neither too warm nor too cool, so we never overheated or felt chilly in them. There really wasn’t anything we didn’t like about these sheets, except for the packaging they come in. The packaging feels a little basic for their luxurious, indulgent feel. But that definitely wouldn’t stop us from investing in them.

Crane & Canopy’s Bella Grey-framed Percale Duvet Cover is one of the most comfortable I’ve ever tried. It packs a crisp and soft feel without feeling flimsy or too stiff. Woven in Italy from Egyptian extra-long staple cotton, its material doesn’t just feel cozy, but also super durable and very hard to rip.

I also found that it was very breathable. The duvet cover delivers the warmth of whatever you place in it, but on its own, I found that its material also felt cool. I also really liked that the duvet cover is designed so that whatever you stuff it with stays in place. In addition to button closures, the duvet cover is also made with tie loops in each corner to make it so that the comforter placed inside doesn’t bunch up or shift out of place.

After sleeping with the duvet cover for several nights, it did not shrink, become discolored, or pill at all. I did notice it felt a little less crisp over time, but it wasn’t anything worth writing it off for since, overall, it felt just as cozy as when I first used it.

The duvet cover comes with a gray-framed design that lends it a hotel-like feel. While the design is rather elegant, I do wish the framing was in a more neutral color so that it would pair better with different kinds of decor schemes.

Credit: Four Seasons

Fans of the Four Seasons will love recreating that classic cozy hotel stay feel with this duvet cover set. The bundle comes with one duvet cover, two bordered pillow shams, and two euro shams all made from long staple Supima cotton. The euro shams, specifically, feature subtle white-on-white Four Seasons branding.

Made with a 350 thread count, the sheets are also designed with a sateen finish, giving them a silky soft feel. Despite being so soft, we also found that they were perfectly crisp, cozy, and very breathable. The duvet cover kept us warm, but not so warm that we found ourselves overheating.

The duvet cover comes with a button-closure system, which does take a little time to put together, but that can be said of most duvet inserts you have to stuff into a cover. The buttons were strong and well-made, so we didn’t run into any issues where we thought they would come loose. While the set does arrive a bit folded and wrinkled, we found that it smoothed out on its own, and liked that it was really easy to wash and dry. We should note that it is one of the priciest bedding options on the list, but if you’re a fan of that classic Four Seasons feel, it’s totally worth it.

Some mattress pads can trap heat despite making your bed feel comfier, but we found that the Hotel Collection Cotton Down Alternative Mattress Pad was rather cooling and breathable. We paired the mattress pad with a set of Hudson Park Collection Sheets, which are equally crisp and cool, and found that it was the perfect setup.

This mattress topper isn’t super thick, but it’s cushioned enough to give the bed a slightly softer feel without making it overly padded. We could feel the difference as soon as we placed it on the mattress. It’s made with a diamond-quilted pattern that features 16 ounces of hypoallergenic down alternative fill per square yard

Unlike what sometimes happens with mattress pads made with real down, we didn’t have any issues with feathers finding their way out of the mattress pad or poking us in our sleep. The quilted design does subtly show through the bed sheets you use, but it kind of gives your bed a more elegant feel. After sleeping on the mattress topper for a few nights, we also liked that it stays in place, no matter how much we moved around while sleeping. The pad secures to each corner of the bed in the way a fitted sheet does.

One of the best features of this Hotel Collection mattress pad is that it’s completely machine-washable, which makes it super easy to clean whenever it does need a refresh.

We loved the W Hotels Down Duvet because its loft feels just right. It’s weighted enough that it feels like it’s hugging you when you lay under it, but not so heavy that you feel like you can’t move or turn. Made with a cotton cover and duck down fill, the comforter feels both luxurious and cozy. If you lay the comforter vertically to steam or dry it, the down does seem to sink to the bottom of its sectioned-off square, but all it takes is a bit of fluffing to make it perfectly plush again.

We found that the duvet wasn’t really breathable, but for this particular item, that makes sense. It’s not really made to sleep under on warmer nights unless your AC is on full blast, but it’s an awesome choice for colder nights when you want to keep warm and trap some body heat under your covers.

When it came to getting this comforter inside a duvet cover, the strings on its corners really helped to keep it in place, so it never really shifted out of place throughout the night. One thing to keep in mind is that while it is machine-washable, you should make sure to closely follow the comforter’s care instructions. Making sure the down dries completely may take you a little extra time, but the effort is worth it if you want to preserve the luxurious, plush feel of the duvet.

While the Westin Mattress Pad is designed to be more of an extra layer of protection over your mattress, it can also make your bed a bit more comfortable.

Its padding is subtle, but we did notice an immediate difference in the way our bed felt after throwing this topper on it. The cotton mattress pad is made of soft quilting that’s stuffed with a hypoallergenic polyester fill, and it’s also stain and water-resistant. It gives the bed a very thin extra layer of plushness, which makes it even more comfortable to sleep on.

After sleeping on it for three weeks, the plushness remained the same and it still looked and felt very new. The entire mattress pad is machine-washable, so it can simply be thrown in the wash for convenient cleaning. We particularly liked that this mattress topper was really easy to put on the bed. You simply secure it like you would a fitted sheet. The elastic corners on this pad are so stretchy and deep (18 inches to be specific) that they can fit almost any kind of mattress. This topper is definitely a low-lift way to make your bed feel comparable to those at a Westin hotel.

Other Luxury Hotel Bedding We Liked

St. Regis Featherbed: The mattress pad feels soft with cloud-like plushness, but it’s not machine-washable and quite hard to clean. We even had a little trouble finding a dry cleaning service that would accept it.

Travel + Leisure

Frette Classic Duvet Cover: The sewing and quality of this duvet cover is impeccable, and the mother of pearl button enclosures give it a timeless and elegant feel. But we found that the duvet cover was surprisingly stiff, rough, and heavy, making it quite uncomfortable to sleep with.

Travel + Leisure

Crane & Canopy’s Ultimate Luxe Down Alternative Comforter: The comforter is made with a down alternative fill that’s distributed evenly, giving it a bouncy feel. It’s also made with corner tie loops that help keep it in place when inserted inside a duvet cover. However, we found that the comforter was a little too heavy and not really breathable, making it rather uncomfortable for some sleepers.

Our Testing Process

T+L staffers spent three weeks sleeping on sheets used at popular luxury hotels, like the Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons, and on bedding made from the same materials as those sheets. We then took note of how each performed in several attributes, including comfort, quality, breathability, design, ease of use, and value.

We made sure to try several categories of bedding, including sheets, comforters, duvet covers, and mattress toppers. For each piece of bedding, we looked at how it felt, how it regulated temperature, and whether or not it showed any signs of wear and tear after washing. We also took note of how easy or difficult we could make the bed with it. For the mattress toppers specifically, we looked at how supportive each one felt and how they affected our sleep quality.

Tips for Buying Luxury Hotel Bedding

Look for quality, breathable fabric

Make sure that the bedding you invest in is made from breathable fabric. If your sheets are causing you to overheat at night, you likely won’t achieve the relaxation you experience while sleeping in a hotel. In many luxury hotels, the bedding is usually made from cotton since it doesn’t really restrict airflow and helps keep you cool and dry throughout the night.

Consider the thread count

Thread count refers to the number of yarns per square inch of fabric, so a higher thread count means thinner yarns were used. The use of thinner yarns can make the bedding feel much softer. While a higher thread count doesn’t always mean the bedding is of a higher-quality, that is likely the case if the bedding is made from cotton. If you are going to consider thread count when shopping for sheets, you should stick to a count between 300 and 500. Sheets in this range are usually very soft and breathable.

Consider your sleep style

Your sleep temperature is one of the most important things you should consider when shopping for bed sheets. Those who sleep hot will want to prioritize breathable, cooling fabrics, while those who sleep cold will want thicker bedding like comforters, or fabrics with denser weaves like sateen. Sateen bedding can trap more heat than sheets made from a percale weave. Sheets that don’t do a good job at regulating your body temperature can lead to interruptions in your sleep, and take you further from the hotel-like relaxation you’re seeking.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is hotel bedding always white?

Part of the reason hotel bedding is always white is because it plays into psychology. Seeing your bed made in crisp and clean white sheets will likely give you the reassurance that your room was also clean and sanitized. Aside from how they make you feel, it’s also easier to spot stains on white sheets, so that helps the hotel staff know when sheets need an extra cleaning or need to be replaced. White hotel bedding is also easier to clean because you can apply bleach and high-temperature water to it without worrying about ruining its dye.

  • What makes hotel bedding so comfortable?

Sleeping in a clean hotel room can help you instantly relax, and that’s definitely part of the reason hotel bedding is so comfortable. But it’s also because hotels make intentional choices about the mattresses and bedding they use. Hotel mattresses are typically made from high-quality materials that are both soft and supportive and treated with special features, like a pillow-top layer. When it comes to bedding, you’ll likely find that hotel sheets are usually made from long-staple cotton which is soft, crisp, and very durable. Regular professional cleanings also ensure that the sheets always feel smooth and fresh.

  • How do you layer bedding hotel-style?

To layer your bed hotel-style, you should first invest in a mattress topper that can protect your bed while softening it up with some plush material. You can then grab your hotel-quality sheets and start layering them, beginning with the fitted sheet. Once the fitted sheet is on, you can drape the bed in the flat sheet, followed by a duvet. Some hotels also throw a cozy blanket between the flat sheet and duvet, which is also a great way to add more warmth to your bedding. After the sheets are on, you’ll tuck them in hospital-corner style to give your bed that polished look. You can then finish the bed off by adding multiple layers of different kinds of pillows against your headboard, and by draping a throw at the foot of the bed.
