Legal veteran Wang Weidong has joined Jingtian & Gongcheng’s Beijing headquarters as a partner.

The firm aims to leverage Wang’s extensive experience in advising central and state-owned companies, and energy companies, as well as his knowledge in the securities and capital markets, to further enhance its competitiveness.

Wang, with more than 30 years of practice experience, had been a veteran at Grandall Law Firm and had once led its Beijing office.

He specialises in advising the power, energy and infrastructure sectors, including China’s major energy players such as China Energy Investment Corporation and State Power Investment Corporation. Wang offers legal services for cross-border investment, M&A, as well as financing and listings projects.

Some of the significant renewable energy projects Wang led include the Meizhou Wan project in Fujian, which was the first wholly foreign-owned power project approved by China’s authorities, and GCL’s perovskite tandem module project, which set a new world record for module-scale perovskite tandem efficiency in May this year.

Concurrently, Wang has taken up public service roles such as serving as the legal adviser to the Ministry of Finance and acting as the legislative consultant to the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress.

He is a board member in state-owned companies, including Beijing Enterprises Holdings and Shanghai Electric Power. Earlier in his career, he worked at Chinese law firms, including Commerce & Finance Law Offices, Junyi Law Firm (君屹律师事务所) and Zhong Ce Law Firm.
