Welbz has 37 top-flight goals for the south-coast team, a joint club-high with Michael Robinson, and is clearly still somebody who can cause problems in the 17:30 BST kick-off.
“I have the passion and love for football,” he said at the weekend. “It’s what I want to do. I feel good. I feel strong and fit so I won’t be stopping soon.”
Welbeck played 27 times in the league during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season as manager, 13 coming as a starter.
His only goal in the division that term came in a 4-2 victory over Stoke City, the side he made his senior league debut against in 2008. However, he did find the net on a huge occasion, the away draw with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
