Rihanna Loses $36 Million After Luxury Fashion Venture Fails

Singer and entrepreneur Rihanna reportedly lost $36 million from her high-end fashion label Fenty, launched with Louis Vuitton’s parent group LVMH in 2019.

Rihanna has reportedly lost $36 million following the collapse of her luxury fashion line, Fenty, a collaboration with French fashion giant Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH).

According to recently filed accounts for her British company, Denim UK Holdings, the Barbados-born music star and entrepreneur invested nearly €30 million ($34.86 million) into the brand, which launched in 2019 as part of an ambitious push into high-end fashion. LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods conglomerate, matched her investment with a similar sum.

Fenty marked a historic moment in the fashion industry, making Rihanna the first woman of color to head a luxury house under the LVMH umbrella. The line featured modern silhouettes, gender-fluid tailoring, and minimalist designs that aimed to bring diversity and new energy to the luxury market.

However, the venture struggled to gain traction and was eventually suspended in 2021, barely two years after its debut. Industry insiders and media reports at the time pointed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely disrupted global retail and luxury markets. Travel restrictions prevented Rihanna from overseeing operations in Paris and Italy, where the products were designed and manufactured.

The French-based company managing the project operated under the name Project Loud France, a nod to Rihanna’s 2010 album Loud. Despite the strong start and major backing, the business failed to achieve sustainable sales before its closure.

Rihanna’s losses were disclosed through Denim UK Holdings, which owned her stake in the venture. The 37-year-old star held 49.99 percent of the partnership, while LVMH retained the majority share.

While the setback marks a rare misstep in Rihanna’s otherwise booming business career, she remains one of the world’s wealthiest entertainers. Forbes estimates her net worth at around $1.4 billion, largely driven by the success of her Fenty Beauty cosmetics line and Savage X Fenty lingerie brand, both of which continue to perform strongly.

Neither Rihanna nor LVMH has issued a new statement on the financial reports. But the closure of Fenty Fashion underscores the immense challenges of launching a luxury brand—even for one of the most influential figures in music and fashion.
