Sean Dyche returns to Nottingham Forest to stabilize the club after Postecoglou’s short reign, bringing Premier League experience and defensive discipline.
Nottingham Forest have appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager, turning to the veteran English coach in an effort to revive a struggling Premier League campaign.
The 54-year-old replaces Ange Postecoglou, whose turbulent 40-day spell ended following a 3–0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. Dyche becomes Forest’s third manager this season, following Postecoglou and Nuno EspĂrito Santo, who had guided the team to a seventh-place finish and a European berth last term.
Dyche, who has signed a contract until 2027, will take charge of the team for the first time on Thursday October 23, 2025, when Forest host FC Porto in the Europa League.
A former Forest youth player, Dyche returns to the City Ground with the immediate task of pulling the club out of the relegation zone. Forest currently sit 18th in the Premier League, having collected just five points from eight games.

The new manager has been out of work since leaving Everton in January, ending a two-year tenure that saw him stabilize the Merseyside club amid financial and competitive struggles. Before that, Dyche spent nearly a decade at Burnley, where he built a reputation for organization, resilience, and success on limited budgets.
In announcing the appointment, Forest praised Dyche’s leadership, tactical awareness, and familiarity with the club’s culture, describing him as the ideal figure to “guide the club through its next chapter.”
“Dyche brings the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement,” the club said in a statement. “His values align closely with our footballing identity.”
Forest had also considered Fulham’s Marco Silva and Roberto Mancini, but opted for Dyche’s Premier League experience and record of defensive solidity.
He will be joined by Ian Woan and Steve Stone, both former Forest players who have long served as Dyche’s assistants at Burnley and Everton. The pair are expected to help reconnect the squad with its supporters and reinforce the team’s trademark grit.
Forest’s managerial turnover highlights a tumultuous start to the 2025–26 season, marked by inconsistency and off-field upheaval. Club officials hope Dyche’s pragmatic style will restore stability and steer Forest away from the relegation battle toward mid-table security.
