Ryanair announces new routes to and from Spain’s Alicante

The budget airline Ryanair will strengthen its presence at Alicante-Elche Airport with ten new routes and a 12 percent increase in capacity for the winter season.

Ten new Ryanair routes will launch this winter to and from Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.

These include flights to Bratislava (Slovakia), Linz and Salzburg (Austria), Bydgoszcz and Rzeszow (Poland), Cardiff and Aberdeen (United Kingdom), Stockholm Vasteras and Smaland (Sweden), and Lanzarote (Spain).

The airline will also increase frequencies on established connections to destinations such as Milan, Marrakech, Budapest, and Edinburgh.

Ryanair’s spokesperson in Spain, Alejandra Ruiz, explained during the Costa Blanca Air Connectivity event that the new connections seek to “offer citizens and visitors more options and regular connections at the lowest fares in Europe”.

The Irish airline will operate 79 routes during the winter period, 12 percent more than the previous year, with a fleet of 16 aircraft based in Alicante and an estimated investment of $1.6 billion.

According to the airline, this expansion will support more than 6,700 local jobs and strengthen the province’s year-round connectivity.

The president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez said that 90 percent of international tourism arriving in the province comes through the airport, which is considered essential for the local economy and employment.

Despite these new routes Ryanair took advantage of the presentation to reiterate its criticism of Aena for the 6.62 percent increase in airport taxes. The airline claims that this measure has “contributed to the loss of two million seats at regional airports”.

Recently Ryanair announced that it would stop all flights to Asturias and just last month in September, the airline also announced the closure of its Santiago de Compostela base and the cancellation of flights to Vigo (both airports in the Galicia region) as well as cutting all flights to Tenerife North, and a reduction in capacity to Santander and Zaragoza.

The increase in routes and capacity at Alicante, however, shows that the impact of these taxes has not significantly slowed its expansion in Spain, and it continues to have a strong presence in more popular areas.

The airline also said it plans to increase seats by 600,000 to major Spanish airports such as Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, and Palma de Mallorca.

Ryanair’s winter schedule to and from Alicante is now available on its official website, with tickets starting at €21.99 for flights between November 2025 and March 2026.
