Synology celebrates 25 years of innovation with eye on an era of AI-driven data protection

  • Fortifying enterprises with intelligent backup, next-gen cyber resilience solutions
  • Synology now supports over 14 mil installations, safeguards 25 mil endpoints worldwide

Synology, a Taiwan-based pioneer in network-attached storage (NAS) and enterprise data management solutions, is charting the next chapter of its journey to protect data. Celebrating 25 years of innovation, the company is expanding its portfolio with intelligent backup, enterprise-grade storage, and compliance-ready collaboration solutions to help enterprises strengthen cyber resilience and navigate the era of explosive data growth.

“Digital transformation continues to be the main driver of data growth,” said Thachawan  Chinchanakarn, head of Southeast Asia at Synology.

World will store 175 Zettabytes of data by 2025
According to the IDC Worldwide Global Forecast, by 2025, the world will generate 175  zettabytes of data, and within the next decade, that number will grow more than tenfold—exceeding 2,100 zettabytes.

In addition, one key question asked in Synology’s 2025 Digital Transformation Trend Survey Southeast Asia on corporate digital transformation found that nearly  90% of businesses in Southeast Asia have already invested in digital transformation – not just as a plan, but as a strategic commitment. However, challenges remain: 85%  of organisations are still in the early stages, and while more than 55% have experienced cyberattacks, only one in five expresses confidence in their recovery capabilities.

Thachawan noted that the main barriers to strengthening data security include budget constraints, a lack of internal technical capabilities, insufficient management support, staff resistance to change, and a lack of suitable consultants and partners.

Fostering cyber resilience
Against this corporate reality around the barriers to strengthening data security, Synology has built itself over the past 25 years into a trusted partner for organisations aiming to accelerate digital transformation securely, efficiently, and sustainably. Proof lies in the fact that Synology now supports over 14 million installations, safeguards 25 million endpoints, and connects 2 million cameras worldwide.

“In the past five years, Synology has continuously earned the trust of enterprises and organisations in Malaysia, almost doubling its revenue. With our expanded portfolio, business customers in Malaysia now have more tailored solutions to meet their diverse and specific needs,” said Jason Sin, country manager of Synology Malaysia.

Across the region, many major corporations recognise Synology not only as a technology provider but also as a trusted strategic partner that boosts operational efficiency and strengthens cyber resilience. As digital transformation accelerates, Synology’s presence in Malaysia has grown remarkably, with enterprise adoption rising by 130% in the past five years. This reflects the strong trust businesses place in Synology to meet their evolving IT needs.

Earlier this year, Synology launched ActiveProtect, a purpose-built backup appliance for enterprises protecting diverse workloads across multiple sites. With models ranging from 8TB to 140TB capacity, it meets the needs of different enterprise scenarios while delivering immutable backups, air-gap capabilities, and regulatory compliance support—providing a robust defense against evolving cyber threats.

Next-phase flagship products for data storage and management unveiled

Aside from data protection solutions, Synology also premiered the new PAS7700, its first all-NVMe enterprise storage, which delivers ultra performance with end-to-end NVMe architecture, achieving up to 2 million IOPS and 30 GB/s throughput with less than 1 millisecond latency. Its active-active architecture ensures continuous availability, while robust encryption and enterprise-grade performance make it ideal for mission-critical workloads.

Looking ahead, Synology plans to integrate AI-driven features into its Office Suite, such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), semantic search, text summarisation, and real-time translation. These innovations will run on on-premises servers, ensuring data privacy while enabling organisations to collaborate more intelligently and securely.

Meanwhile, the ActiveProtect portfolio is designed to enhance workload coverage, bolster cyber resilience, and simplify compliance. These updates strengthen immutability and air-gap protection capabilities through technologies such as Write Once, Read Many (WORM) and network isolation, helping prevent data tampering and unauthorised access.

“Cyber resilience has become a top priority for IT leaders worldwide—it’s vital for maintaining business continuity and staying competitive,” said Thachawan. “Our solutions reflect Synology’s commitment to delivering simple, scalable, and secure technologies that help businesses protect their most valuable assets and succeed in the digital future.”
