There was nearly a 90% chance of rain today and the forecasters were correct. Vicki Buholz and I warmed up at 7:45 for 45 minutes, and Vicki gave me a great warm up. (She has the day off today.) We started our match a little before 9am. It started sprinkling around 9:30 or so, rained harder 20 minutes later and by 10am most courts were in a rain delay…by 10:40 it was pouring and the courts were soaked…and by 1:30 the courts were dry again and play started around 3pm. We however had finished just before 10am without taking a rain break..the last few points we played though it was raining pretty hard!
After my match I had tea with one of the British players, Pauline Fisher…who thought it was quite funny when I said I needed to put on pants (pants meaning “underpants” in British English I believe). I finally did leave around 11:30 to get my “trousers”, to shower to warm up and get my laundry to wash at the main hotel. I returned at lunch time, which today involved no sweets at all but lots of vegetables (cooked and salads, and pasta with meat or vegetable chili).
My laundry was done by then and I was headed back to my room while it was dry to hang out my laundry and do my shoulder etc exercises, but Rudy and MJ Pachl asked if I wanted to join them for a walk around Feldsee and so I did. The lake is a small one but half the walk is right along the lake and very pretty. The sun was shining and it felt brisk but not too cold.
After the walk I picked up my strung racquet, and walked back to my hotel…only to bike back with my bands to do my workout in the gym.
Vicki meanwhile walked around Lake Afritz just to the south of Feld am See, which she said took an hour. Yesterday she was paddle boarding while MJ was swimming (though apparently Vicki went swimming at the end when she slipped off her board.
The times for tomorrow go up at 8pm. I will play Sylvia Reigl again, and Vicki plays the conqueror of MJ Pachl. I may not play singles tomorrow though. The doubles draws are finally posted…we are playing in the 55s.
