One of the most satisfying ways to earn points is to leverage hotel promotions. Luckily, registration is open for a new IHG One Rewards promotion that will let you earn up to triple points on nights between Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. Here’s what you need to know.
IHG bonus points promotion
You can register here for a new IHG bonus points promotion for stays from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.
This promotion won’t give you any bonus points on your first qualifying stay after registering. But you’ll earn double points on your second qualifying stay and triple points starting on your third qualifying stay. In total, you can earn up to 70,000 bonus points through this promotion.
IHG HOTEL & RESORTS
For this promotion, IHG defines a qualifying stay as a stay of one night or longer booked under a qualifying rate and spending more than $30 per night. Nights outside Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 — or those that are part of a stay you complete before registering for this promotion — don’t count.
Reward nights (including those booked with anniversary night certificates or IHG points), points and cash stays, and stays booked through online travel agencies aren’t eligible. Finally, each member can only earn double or triple points on one room per night, and the bonus points you earn through this promotion aren’t elite status qualifying points.

How does IHG calculate double or triple points?
It’s important to understand how IHG calculates the double and triple points for this promotion, as it might not be as lucrative as you’d expect if you have IHG One Rewards elite status.
In short, IHG is doubling or tripling the base points (but not the bonus points) you earn on qualifying stays during the promotion. As a reminder, you earn 10 base points per dollar spent at most IHG hotels and 5 points per dollar spent at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.
So, if you spend $100 of eligible charges on a qualifying stay at a Holiday Inn Express, you’d earn 1,000 base points. If this is your second qualifying stay during the promotion, you’d earn double points by earning 1,000 bonus points. Likewise, if this is your third or beyond stay during this promotion, you’d earn triple points by earning 2,000 bonus points.
If you have IHG elite status, you’d also earn bonus points as usual based on your status tier. But having elite status doesn’t help you earn more points through this promotion since IHG calculates both the elite and the promotional bonus points based on the base points you earn.

Bottom line
This IHG bonus points promotion isn’t the most exciting or lucrative, but it’s worth registering for the promotion even if you don’t have any IHG stays planned for the rest of the year. After all, your plans might change, and this promotion could earn you bonus IHG points.
