- Honorary doctorate and emeritus titles recognise national and academic leadership
Multimedia University (MMU) recently celebrated the commencement of its 2025 convocation ceremony, graduating 4,187 graduates from the Class of 2025 at Dewan Tun Canselor MMU.
The first day of the ceremony marked a significant milestone, featuring the installation of a pro-chancellor, the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree, the conferment of an emeritus professor award, and the announcement of MMU’s top-performing graduates from the Class of 2025.
The graduates received their diplomas, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor of philosophy degrees in the fields of engineering, information and communication technology, creative multimedia, cinematic arts, business and management, finance, accounting, law, and strategic communication.
Installation of pro-chancellor
The first session of the ceremony witnessed the installation of Richard Malanjum, former chief justice of Malaysia, as the new pro-chancellor, following the official declaration of the session’s opening by Zaki Tun Azmi, chancellor of MMU.
Welcoming the installation, the MMU president, Prof. Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, said, “Richard’s lifelong commitment to justice and public service aligns strongly with the values that guide our university. His appointment as pro-chancellor brings unparalleled experience and national stature to MMU, reinforcing the university’s tradition of distinguished service at the highest ceremonial level.”
Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degree
In the same ceremony, the university conferred an honorary doctor of management upon Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Prof. Mazliham said, “We are equally proud to recognise Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, whose visionary leadership at the MCMC has been instrumental in shaping Malaysia’s digital landscape. His contributions align directly with MMU’s core mission in technology and communications, making this conferment a most fitting tribute.”
Conferment of emeritus professor award
Another landmark moment of the convocation was the conferment of the title of emeritus professor upon Prof. Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, former vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaya and the founding president of MMU.
“Conferring Ghauth as our first emeritus professor is a moment of immense pride for our community, ensuring that his visionary leadership continues to inspire future generations of academics and students,” said Prof. Mazliham.
High-achieving graduates
The university also announced its top-performing graduates from the Class of 2025 during the first session of the ceremony. These high achievers were recognised with the prestigious chancellor’s award, president’s award, and the permata award, presented to 12 recipients.
The convocation marks a pivotal milestone as graduates prepare to embark on their professional journeys and contribute meaningfully to a digital society.
