ClientEarth has hired its first dedicated fundraising lead for Asia.
Joining the environmental law charity from climate finance think tank Carbon Tracker is Mirabella Pulido, who will lead regional fundraising efforts based in London.
ClientEarth launched in Asia in 2016, focusing on training China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Supreme People’s Court in environmental law practices. The organisation – which to date has relied exclusively on Western markets for funding – has taken a “tailored approach” to Asia, focusing on building environmental law frameworks rather than litigating against corporate polluters, as it has done in the West.
Pulido was previously Carbon Tracker’s energy project manager, a role she held for more than three and a half years. Over her career, she has worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a coordinator in the electronics research laboratory, a consultant and a freelance technical writer. In 2020, Pulido founded Women of Color in Consulting, to support professional women of colour in the consulting sector.
Her appointment comes at a time when climate litigation is growing rapidly globally, albeit at a relatively slow pace in Asia. Indonesia, India, and South Korea have seen the most climate law cases, while courts in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar and Vietnam have yet to hear a climate case.
