The American, son of CIA deputy director Michael Alexander Gloss, who died on the front in Ukraine, fought on Russia’s side at Chasov Yar in the “Donetsk People’s Republic”, and participated in the assault operations.
This was stated by the commander of the Airborne Forces (VDV) Mikhail Teplinsky at the ceremony of christening Donetsk school No. 115 with the names of the cavaliers of the Order of Courage Ivan Kokovin and Gloss, TASS reports.
“He may be extraordinary for you, but for us he is an ordinary paratrooper, like many others, he, along with everyone, fulfilled his duty, also fought. He fought in the Chasov Yar area, also for the liberation of Donbas. Like many others who participated in assault operations, he fought shoulder to shoulder with his comrades,” Teplinsky commented.
The commander adds that Gloss “died like a hero, fighting for the liberation of Donbas.”
“Like many others, he sought to liberate Donbas. I think that if he had lived to the moment when Donbass would be free, then it would have been a great happiness for him. And now, at the moment, we will do everything to make Donbass ours,” the commander of the Airborne Forces notes. “We have already handed everything over to the parents. Indeed, they can be proud of their son, because he grew up as a worthy citizen of the United States of America and, one might say, of the Russian Federation,” Teplinsky added.
According to him, Kokovin and Gloss were killed in shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which were moving to storm the Russian servicemen. “They were not the only ones (on this combat mission). There was a column moving for assault operations. The column came under fire.”
The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Education of Russia Sergei Kravtsov, the Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party, the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Vladimir Yakushev, and the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin.
A memorial plaque with the names of Kokovin and Gloss was placed on the facade of the school.
