A few years ago, I was in Paris with my parents when we had one of our worst travel experiences to date. On the metro to the airport, I noticed three men hovering suspiciously close to my dad, while one stood directly in front of me, blocking my view. Just before the next stop, I heard a clattering noise and some commotion near my dad, but I couldn’t see what was happening. Then, right as the doors were closing, the men jumped off the train, and my dad immediately realized his wallet and passport had been stolen.
We got off at the next stop to regroup. My parents called their credit card company to cancel the cards, and I quickly searched online for advice about the missing passport. Everything I read said the same thing: contact the embassy, but expect at least a day or two delay in getting a new one. Thanks to lucky timing and an incredibly kind man, my dad emerged from the embassy an hour later with a temporary passport, the ink on the newly printed pages still drying. Somehow we still had just enough time to grab a taxi, rush to the airport, and—against all odds—make our flight home.
I’ve been to Paris twice and have seen people get pickpocketed both times. Watching my dad’s experience has made me a much more cautious traveler and has changed how I pack and carry my things in touristy areas. I now bring the following items on my trips, all of which are included in Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale. Whether you’re visiting a destination where theft is common or just want a few travel safety items for peace of mind, these picks will help you avoid an unexpected trip to your local embassy. From anti-theft backpacks to sturdy luggage locks, these are some of my favorite personal safety product deals for Cyber Monday.
Best Anti-theft Travel Essentials
Stouchi AirTag Passport Holder
Amazon
I don’t know how much good it would have done to see where the thieves were taking my dad’s passport once it was stolen, but I still swear by a trackable passport holder. Lately, I’ve been loving the Satechi Passport Holder, which has tracking technology built into the holder itself, but this Stouchi AirTag Passport Holder is a great option if you already have an Apple AirTag—and it’s on sale for $12 during Cyber Monday. Slot your AirTag into the designated spot, then sync the device to your phone so you know where your passport is at all times. This technology has also come in handy for me outside of traveling, when I realize I don’t know where my passport is and can double-check its location on my phone.
Apple AirTag 4-pack
Walmart
Whether you get the passport holder above or not, Apple AirTags are an essential travel accessory these days. This four-pack is on sale for a whopping 36 percent off, making now a great time to stock up. I keep one in every bag I travel with to make sure I know where my things are at all times. An AirTag also helped me recently locate a suitcase that had been lost by the airline during a layover—making the ordeal slightly less stressful. Apple AirTags are some of our favorite luggage trackers we’ve tested, so you can also rest easy knowing Travel + Leisure editors love them, too.
Pacsafe RFIDsafe V150 RFID-blocking Organizer
Amazon
A passport wallet is a smart way to keep your passport safe, as well as hold other important items like IDs, credit cards, and visas. This compact organizer from Pacsafe provides a secure way to keep important small items safe. It also comes with a detachable strap that can be worn around your wrist or through a belt loop to prevent pickpocketing. The strap is built with wire-enforced webbing that can’t be cut through easily, and the holder is RFID-safe to protect from unauthorized scans. Get it for $28 during the sale.
Zpsolution Anti-Theft Zipper Clips
Amazon
I only recently learned about zipper clips, and now I’m hooked (pun intended). These small clips allow you to connect zipper pulls together, making it impossible to open your bag without unclipping them first. While this will require a bit more effort on your part to open your bag, it also makes it much harder for thieves to unzip a bag without you noticing. On sale for $12, this pack of four clips can be used on everything from purses to bags to backpacks.Â
Travelon RFID-blocking Money Belt
Amazon
Money belts are a tried-and-true method for keeping essential items, like your passport and wallet, safe from pickpockets. They’re designed to be worn under your shirt, keeping your things close to your body and almost impossible to steal. Currently discounted to $13, this one has two zippered pockets and three drop pockets to help keep things organized. The strap is adjustable for a customized fit, and it locks securely but is easy to get off when you make it to your destination.Â
Lewis N. Clark RFID-blocking Neck Wallet
Amazon
This neck wallet serves a similar purpose as a money belt, but offers a different way to carry items that some people may find more comfortable. This wallet can also be worn underneath clothing to prevent pickpockets from grabbing your things. It has an impressive amount of space and can hold a passport, ID, cash, credit cards, and even wired headphones. Ripstop nylon on the front keeps it extra durable, and the quick-dry material on the back keeps it breezy against your body.
Surphy Phone Wrist Strap
Amazon
The easiest way to keep your phone from getting stolen is to keep it securely in a bag, but I use my phone for pretty much everything throughout my travel days, whether checking my GPS, translating restaurant menus, or pulling up museum tickets. Instead, I prefer to use one of these wrist straps (on sale for $7), which keeps my phone attached to my wrist at all times thanks to an adjustable sliding clasp. The integrated clip also means I can clip it to a backpack or bag for added security if I need easy access to my phone but can’t have it on my wrist. It also works on earbud cases.Â

Amazon
When theft or another unsafe situation does occur, you can have a bit more peace of mind with this personal safety alarm. It’s one of our favorite travel safety devices at T+L thanks to its compact build and ease of use. When set off, it emits a powerful 130-decibel siren and flashes a bright strobe light that will draw the attention of anyone nearby. It comes in a wide range of colors and can be clipped to most bags, so it’s easily accessible when you need it—although hopefully you never do.

Belkin Waterproof AirTag Key Ring
Amazon
While it can be advantageous to tuck an AirTag discreetly into a bag, it can also be helpful to keep one attached with this key ring. It’s easy to use—just twist the AirTag inside and lock—and make sure you don’t accidentally drop it while on the go. It’s great for attaching to purses, luggage, keys, or even dog collars. The durable, waterproof and scratch-resistant case is equipped to stand up against the rigors of travel and is on sale for just $9 for Cyber Monday.Â
Master Lock Portable Small Lock Box
Amazon
I always travel with a portable lock box for extra safety when staying in hotels and apartment rentals. It provides a secure place to store jewelry, cash, a passport, and small electronics, whether you’re leaving them in a room or taking them with you. With a sturdy locking system, it helps deter theft and will give you peace of mind when you can’t keep your belongings on you at all times. While it looks hefty, it weighs less than two pounds, so it’s easy to bring along on any trip. Get it on sale for just $17.Â
AirTag Fabric Mount
Amazon
This AirTag fabric mount allows you to attach your tracking device to a variety of fabrics, including polyester, nylon, and vinyl, so it’s perfect for traveling with a bag or purse with minimal interior pockets. Once adhered, it flexes with the fabric and offers a low-profile alternative to keychains. It’s also great for discreetly hiding an AirTag in a bag or backpack—that way, if it gets stolen, the culprit won’t throw it out immediately, and you’ll get more time to track the location. On sale for $17, the design also allows you to replace the battery in your AirTag without removing the adhesive. Note that it won’t work on suede, leather, or stretchy, fibrous fabrics.Â
Travoce TSA-approved Luggage Locks
Amazon
TSA-approved luggage locks are a must-have for all travelers. These can be used to secure your luggage through the airport, and are allowed because they’re designed with a special mechanism that allows TSA agents to open them with a master key for inspection. Not only can they be used on luggage, but they’re also ideal for securing backpack zippers and even purses if you know you won’t need to get into your bag at a moment’s notice. Get a four-pack for just $18 during Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale.Â

Amazon
Keep your phone accessible at all times and safe with this phone lanyard. It attaches to your phone case to create a crossbody strap that allows you to keep your hands free without risking the safety of your device.
