Aston Villa boss Unai Emery: “The team was very focused in the match. My first analysis after the match is that we were consistent but when we were winning 2-0 we did not use our opportunities to score a third.
“We know we need the goal advantage to be in the top eight in the Europa League. We relaxed a little bit in the second half.
“A team like Young Boys with experienced players and experienced in Europe they could score one goal like they did and then you can get in troubles. We must be learning in our process and the way we are to try to avoid the moment in the future like we had today.
“We have to try to get the balance, how we are managing the competitions and how we manage the match.
“Today we did the analysis this morning and tried to get our gameplan like we did, the first moment of the players was very good but we must be more demanding in some moments, we were relaxing maybe a little bit.
“Today we did one step forward overall.”
On Donyell Malen after he was hit by a plastic cup: “I think he is OK.”
On his performance: “One month ago he demanded that I changed him because he was tired. Progressively he has been getting fit. He is getting numbers which is fantastic. He is really performing well. Now, keep going.”
“We’ve got to keep the form, stay humble and work hard!”

Here’s how Twitter users reacted after Young Boys fans throw objects at Aston Villa players and clash with police…
@K3yNFFC: But English fans are the problem…
@Psurrey: He had 80% of the ground to run towards and celebrate, but chose the away fans?
@Alanh087: Hope that scummy villa fan who trid to throw a cheap dig got arrested too, prick.
@Zlatans1985: if british fans behaved like that in europe uefa would throw the book at us….
@Trentvilla1: UEFA will probably fine #avfc its always the English fans fault
@MissBates35: That shocking behaviour will somehow be Malens fault!! Why shouldn’t he prove a point after they cut his head open?? Young Boys fans should be banned from every away game!!!! Absolute tools!!! #AVLYB #AVFC #UTV 💜💙
@avfcbreaking: Young Boys fans tearing seats up and throwing them. Will they face a ban? #AVFC
@QN1981: Young Boys? More like Angry Boys! What a bunch of scumbag fans #EuropaLeague #AVFC
@wooody120: Why weren’t the young boys fans banned from coming? #Avfc
@aroundgroundsss: Absolute disgrace this. Really hope fans are punished to the highest order. Fighting with police before and now this. #AVFC
@RhLUFC96: Footballers who celebrate in front of the away end when they’re at home deserve every single thing thrown at them.
@jack_cym: Don’t celebrate in front of away fans then? Simple as that
@Ant_Mossarelli: Young Boys fans an absolute embarrassment. Shameful. Pathetic. Go home. #AVFC #UTV
@Nick48516959981: Any English club would be banned from Europe for 3 years minimum
@Liam_J20: Imagine if we did this in France or Spain, the coppers would be stamping on our head.
