Looking for positive vibes going after a disappointing 2024-25 season, the Philadelphia 76ers unveiled the new throwback jerseys they will use for the upcoming NBA campaign.
The Sixers showed off their Allen Iverson-era throwbacks on Tuesday that will make their first appearance in a game on Nov. 8.
The new throwbacks are part of the 76ers organization honoring the 25-year anniversary of their most recent appearance in the NBA Finals.
Iverson led the 2000-01 team to their first division title in 11 years and the Finals for the first time in 18 years. The Answer won the MVP award after leading the league in scoring with 31.1 points per game.
It was during that Finals in Game 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers that Iverson provided one of the most iconic moments in franchise history. He hit a crossover that sent Tyronn Lue to the floor, then proceeded to step over the Lakers guard.
Iverson scored 48 points in Philadelphia’s 107-101 overtime win in that game. Even though the Lakers would go on to win the series, the series is best remembered for that moment.
In addition to the jerseys, the 76ers are going to use a custom court from the Iverson era for 14 games during the 2025-26 season.
The 76ers originally introduced the Iverson-era look prior to the 1997-98 season, adding the black road uniforms to their rotation. They kept that design for 12 years before going to their current white and blue jerseys with red alternates.
It’s hard to figure out what the expectations for the 2025-26 Sixers should be. They have a lot of high-end talent in Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey when everyone is healthy, but that group only played 15 games together last season.
We won’t have to wait long to find out, as the 76ers will tipoff the regular season on Oct. 22 against the Boston Celtics. They will be hosting the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 8 in the first game with their throwback jerseys.
