5 Ways to Style Comfy Track Pants This Fall

Take it from someone who lives in New York City and tries to avoid jeans at all costs: you can absolutely wear track pants outside of the locker room. And why wouldn’t you want to? With their flowy, wide legs and elastic waistbands, they’re undeniably comfortable. Still, styling them for the right occasion can be tricky—but with the right accessories, you can sport them just about anywhere.

These looks can work for just about any fall activity, whether it’s strolling through Central Park or visiting a pumpkin patch. 

The Elevated Jet-setter

I love a good matching set for travel—and this cozy track pants and jacket combo is great for catching flights. This luxe set has made it into Oprah’s Favorite Things List thanks to its ultra-soft, light-as-air spacer fabric. Layering a simple tank top underneath (I love this square-neck option) will ensure you can peel the jacket off if you get too warm on the tarmac. A pair of knit Rothy’s clogs is my shoe of choice to complete this relaxed-yet-polished ensemble. They’re breathable, supportive, and “comfortable but sleek-looking”—which is exactly what we’re going for. Add a simple gold necklace and a pair of oversized sunglasses, and you’re ready to fly in style. 

The Street Stylist

Track pants are so much more than athletic bottoms—they’re a street style staple with roots in hip-hop and skate culture. Streetwear is all about originality, and a pair of classic black track pants (like these from Athleta) can serve as the perfect base for a unique outfit. If exploring a new city is on your itinerary this fall, you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing the right kind of shoes. These New Balance sneakers are cute without sacrificing comfort, and have a neutral colorway that’s easy to style with other pieces in your wardrobe. A structured, untucked button-down, a pair of hoops, and a statement bag all add personality while still keeping things casual.

The Office Trendsetter

New England fall, anyone? Classic prep is back in style, and with the right accessories, you can partake in the trend while staying comfy in a pair of track pants. Crew rollneck sweater and these cushioned LifeStride tassel loafers are the posh bookends these track pants need to pull off the collegiate vibe we’re going for. Add in a pair of oversized aviators and a barn jacket for extra warmth, and you’re ready for leaf-peeping, apple-picking, and beyond.
